Neutron Imaging

  1. Method to transmit macroscopic samples and object by neutrons with the aim to determine their hidden content.
  2. Similarly to the common X-ray techniques images are obtained, however with a different, complementary or alternative information.
  3. Based on advanced digital neutron imaging techniques several methods are available:
  • Radiography: a two-dimensional shadow image of the object

    chainsaw
  • Tomography: the full three-dimensional structure of the object

    carburettor
  • Real time imaging: a sequence of images on different time scales and the visualization of dynamic processes

    root growthing
  • Phase contrast imaging: a secondary information is obtained using the wave properties of the neutrons

  • Autoradiography: produced by secondary radiation after the neutron exposure (activation)

    autoradiography
